There will be a series of concerts and lectures held as part of the 2nd Annual Winter Term Course in Historically Informed Performance - South African College of Music, a course offered to 4th year BMus Students and occasional students from outside the University of Cape Town.

The programme is designed to offer students the opportunity to gain degree credits for courses outside the standard first and second terms (semesters) in a four-week block of lectures that occur during June / July (Winter Session). During this period students attend classes, complete the standard written work required for any term-length course, and write a full examination. The programme is an intensive one. However, as many students have discovered, it can be very rewarding.

Monday 16 June, 17:00 - Strubenholm Recital Room, SACM

Lecture recital by Lorenzo Ghirlanda (sackbut)

This lecture is based on a research project conducted by Lorenzo Ghirlanda for the Swiss National Fund. A major discovery in the grave of the Chapel of the Freiberger Dom (Saxony), in 2002, included, among other things, two renaissance trombones. This opened many new perspectives on the playing technique and sound ideals of these instruments.
